Farming UK

The world’s population is predicted to reach 9.6 billion by 2050, that’s a lot of mouths to feed. The figures come with problems, if the population rise stays on course we faced with all kinds of issues, such as quality of life, depletion of natural resources and general strain on the earth, but with growth comes industry expansion. Growth in the agricultural industry has led to better developments in equipment and increased productivity, although we may be playing catch up to the continuous population growth, the agricultural industry has played a large role in maintaining a certain quality of life. The UK agricultural industry is a huge part of this as our exports have almost doubled since 1999.

What does growth mean for the UK farming Industry

A growing world needs a growing agriculture industry. Female farmers are securely optimistic about the future of farming and their role in it. The number of female farmers in the UK has bounded to 23,000, compared to 19,000 male farmers. On-going developments in machinery and technologies mean agriculture doesn’t have to be male dominated as a matter of necessity anymore. The harsh physical connotations we carry about farming are becoming less vital and making way for an altogether more scientific and calculated approach. The changing world offers a place for women at the head of these originally male controlled industries. This will open up the world of agriculture and the hopefully help support our increasing population.
