Ride on Roller

Theory Training includes the following subjects:

- Employee’s duties and responsibilities under law
- Safety signs
- Dealing with hazards
- Accident prevention and control
- Selection and use of personal protective equipment
- Handling plant-related harmful substances
- Operator Roles and responsibilities
- Operator preparation for work
- Machine Travelling and manoeuvring
- Setting up for work
- Working tasks
- Completing work
- Shutdown procedures
- Machine handbooks
Practical Training covers:
- Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- Use of the operator’s handbook, other information sources, Approved Codes of Practice and legislative documents
- Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure
- Preparing the road roller for site and road travel
- Travelling the road roller over different terrain including rough undulating ground
- Manoeuvring, progressing to confined spaces in a forward & reverse direction and identification of conditions that will make the roller unstable
- How to set the road roller for compaction duties, including preparing an area prior to compaction, markings, barriers, signs and traffic management
- Characteristics of materials and how to compact them, including recognising compacted and uncompacted areas
- How to safely compact up to supported and unsupported edges, around radii and obstructions and on inclines
- Placing the road roller in an out-of-service condition
- Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
