Mobile Elevating Work Platform (Boom/Scissor)
Theory Training includes the following subjects:
- Principles and aims of health and safety at work
- Employee’s duties and responsibilities under law
- Safety signs
- Dealing with hazards
- Accident prevention and control
- Selection and use of personal protective equipment
- Handling plant-related harmful substances
- Operator Roles and responsibilities
- Operator preparation for work
- Machine Travelling and manoeuvring
- Setting up for work
- Working tasks
- Completing work
- Shutdown procedures
- Machine handbooks
Practical Training covers:
- Basic construction, names of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges
- Use of the operator’s handbook, other information sources, Approved Codes of Practice and legislative documents
- Operator documentation, certificates, method statements, lift plans, duties charts etc
- Interpreting information displayed on the machine
- Pre-use, start, running checks and close-down procedure, including emergency lowering procedures
- Controlling the MEWP from all available operating positions, including remote devices if applicable
- Manoeuvring the MEWP progressing to manoeuvring in confined areas, to include tight turns in forward and reverse and travelling in the raised position (self propelled machines only)
- How to position the MEWP up to the maximum working height available
- How to stay within safe working parameters
- Placing the MEWP in an out-of-service condition
- Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
